2-5 & 2-6 BSA and Triumph

    34.5mm Aluminum Slider Forks

    1971-81

There are the two variations of Triumph and BSA damping rods used on aluminum slider forks. The top nut is the only difference. Once the top nut is removed the procedure is the same.

Notice the vertical compression slot in the damping rod.

It is recommended to replace the stock o-ring with Race Tech Piston Rings FPPR Series. At a minimum, install a new o-ring as every one we've seen is worn out.

RT Fork Springs are required with Emulators as stock and other aftermarket springs are not compatible due to their length, ID, etc.

The top nut and the piston are threaded onto the rod.

Remove and discard the top nut.

Remove the piston and check plate. Clean thoroughly. Surface both sides of the piston and check plate with 320 grit sandpaper on a flat surface. This will help the check plate seal on the piston.

Apply hi-strength thread lock, re-install the check plate and piston. Make sure the flat side of the piston is facing up, the recessed side facing down towards the check plate.

Carefully tighten the piston onto the damping rod using a v-notch vise, shaft holder or similar method.

Hold the damping rod using a V-notch vise jaw (TMVJ 065) or a shaft holding tool.

Carefully cut off the excess threaded portion of the damping rod about 2 to 3 threads above the piston.

Dress and deburr carefully, clean any metal shavings from the assembly.

It is OK to have the shaft stick up slightly past the top of the head.

Add Compression Feed Holes

Drill six 6mm (1/4") holes (3 sets of 2 holes) near the bottom of the damping rod at 90 degrees to the stock compression slot.

Start with the lowest compression holes at the height of the bottom of the stock slot. Use 10mm spacing between the holes.

Deburr inside and out.

Install the FPPR 273022 Piston Ring.

During fork assembly place the adapter between the damping rod and the Emulator.

See Standard Emulator Instructions.
